Butterbian XFCE 0.3.0 is out, built on the fresh Debian 13.5 point release.

    What's new

Firefox is hardened out of the box. No more digging through about:config or installing privacy
    extensions on a clean install:

    • Enhanced Tracking Protection set to Strict — trackers, fingerprinters, cryptominers, and email trackers are blocked
    • Total Cookie Protection — third-party cookies are partitioned per-site
    • HTTPS-Only mode is on (with the usual per-site fallback)
    • Notification permission prompts are blocked
    • Post-quantum TLS key agreement is on
    • Telemetry, studies, sponsored content, and the onboarding nags are all off
    • Profile defaults come from Betterfox v150
    • Saved passwords are click-to-fill — the password manager still works, autofill won't leak credentials to injected forms
    • geoclue is blocked at the provider level
    • PDF default zoom set to page-width
    • uBlock Origin is bundled, no network access needed at first launch

Everything stays user-adjustable. If you don't like a setting, flip it in about:config — nothing here is locked.

    Fixes

    • Snapshot retention is now fully managed by Timeshift (12 monthly + 8 weekly), with apt-triggered snapshots persisting alongside. The old custom prune script is gone — one less moving part.
    • Cleaned up an unused @snapshots subvolume that was a leftover from earlier design. Existing installs are unaffected.

    Login UX

The greeter now matches butterknife — click-to-login (no retyping your username), and XFCE is the default session.
